The United Kingdom is making a mistake and setting a bad legal precedent in the context of international law by authorizing the extradition of Julian Assange. Regardless of whether Assange has overstepped the laws of his country, he did not do it to enrich himself or to commit a crime, he did it for the greater good. Assange is a political activist, not a criminal. In this era in which international justice should prevail over national laws, it is appropriate to act in accordance with such international framework and grant Assange the benefit of political asylum.

The untimely quiting of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, on the eve of this decision against Human Rights, makes her nothing less than a cover-up of this major injustice. Bachelet did absolutely nothing to provide protection to Assange during the period in which she held her high office, leaving him in complete defenselessness and committing a notable abandonment of her duties.
